Wildland Fire Update - May 01, 2011
From the Front Range Interagency Fire Management Center in Cañon City…
The Sand Gulch Fire on the San Isabel National Forest experienced significantly decreased activity yesterday. This morning there was 1 to 3 inches of snow on the fire.
The fire was detected on 4/26/2011 and is located approximately 5 miles southwest of Wetmore, in Custer County. This morning, the fire is 550 acres in size and is considered 20% contained.
The Type 3 management team remains in place. There are approximately 100 firefighters working the fire.
Today, the fire is will see minimal activity due to the snow cover. Fire crews will remain in the fire area and take actions as necessary.
A Fire Information Briefing will be conducted at the Wetmore Community Center tonight at 5:00 pm. Fire Information Officers and San Carlos District Ranger, Paul Crespin will be attending
