The Foot Bridge in Wetmore-Connecting the Past to the Present

In June of 2017, Greenwood and Wetmore experienced flooding along the Middle and South Hardscrabble Creeks as heavy rains brought down soil, ash, and debris from the Junkins Burn Scar.

During this flood event, the foot bridge in Wetmore washed away. 

This is the foot bridge that connects "downtown" Wetmore where the Post Office and Wetmore Community Church are located to the other side of the creek housing the Wetmore Community Building and Library.

The foot bridge has now been repaired!

WHG&HS member Jim Walters shares this history of the important little bridge:

"Only the Old Timers would understand and appreciate the historic significance of that particular spot on the Hardscrabble. It's been everything from a couple of flat rocks....to just a "tippy" plank from the Sawmill...to this great bridge made from two truck frames. When the Post Office was also the Drug-General Merchandise-Assay-and Doctor's office...it was the main thoroughfare across the creek. Also when the School House was up on the hill behind the Post Office a lot of kids crossed here. The new decking looks fantastic and will give good service for another couple generations."
