First Signs of Spring-Pasqueflower in Wetmore

Pasqueflower on the Hayward property. You know spring has sprung around here when you see these beauties. They are always the first to bloom.

May 10th Meeting Cancelled

I am not going to be able to hold our meeting this Saturday, May 10th; therefore, it is cancelled for the month of May.

Our next meeting will be Saturday, June 14th, 10 a.m., at the History Center in Wetmore.

WHG&HS April Meeting

Hi All!

Beautiful weather - spring has sprung?

The meeting this Saturday will be a short one.  If possible, I'd like Dave Alexander to give an update on Grandmas' Cookbook and Robert & Joan to give an explanation about the Red Creek tour - locations to visit, etc.  Also do you have a date in mind?

I have no news on the Kiosk situation.  That group didn't meet last month and normally meets the 4th Friday of the month.

Short and sweet but will be great to see everyone.

Wetmore Community Church-100th Anniversary

2014 marks the 100th year anniversary of the Wetmore Community Church!

The church will be hosting four community events throughout the year.  The first event will be April 20, Easter Sunday.  An Easter Sunrise service will be held at the top of Jackson Hill, 2 miles east of Wetmore.  A sign will be posted off Hwy 96 with directions.  Following the Sunrise service, the church will host a Pancake Breakfast at the Wetmore Community Building.  This event is free and open to the public. 

The Easter Worship service will be held at the church at 10:00 am.  All are welcome to attend.

 

Rescheduled WHG&HS March Meeting

Our meeting for the Society has been rescheduled to Saturday, March 22nd at 10 a.m. at the History Center in Wetmore. After our meeting, we'll have the Kiosk meeting. The temperature that day is supposed to be in the 60's.

WHG&HS March Meeting

March certainly came in like a lion!  Moisture is the name of the game these days, however it arrives.  Cold, cold go away...

Our March meeting will be at the Post Office, History Society meeting room at 10:00 a.m. this Saturday. 

We are still in need of grandmothers' recipes so we can complete our book.  Do you have any unusual recipes from the "old days" to share?  Two or three of your grandmother's favorites would be appreciated.  Include a short bio of her and a photo if possible.

A meeting of the Wayfinding Kiosk project will follow our meeting at approximately 11:00 a.m.  Commissioner Attebery, Vivienne Wachholtz and I attended a meeting last Friday in Silver Cliff of the Southern Rockies -  Crossroads of Culture.  This was in regard to the Kiosk project so there will be an update given.  We need to narrow our suggestions of conversation for the Wetmore Kiosk.

Refurbished Hardscrabble Sign

The Hardscrabble sign located at mile marker #2 on Hwy 67 between Florence and Wetmore has a fresh new look!

It has new concrete foundations, newly painted posts and a new grade to help with drainage.  The sign as has been sanded, painted and refinished.

WHG&HS February Meeting

We will meet next Saturday, February 8th at 10 a.m. in the meeting room of the Society behind the Post Office.

We will include the Wayfinding Kiosk discussion, so bring your suggestions for inclusion on the signs. Southern Rockies Crossroads of Culture doesn't meet until February 28th in Westcliffe and had their meeting Friday cancelled due to the weather; no update from them.

Spring tour by the Hamiltons of Red Creek area to be updated.

Hardscrabble sign has been reinstalled after it's refurbishment. Remember, dues can be submitted for 2014: WHGHS, PO Box 211, Wetmore, CO 81253. Thanks to those who have paid!

Weather to be cold all week with possible moisture. We will take safety into consideration for Saturday's meeting.
